Anatomicum Activity Book by Katy Wiedemann and Jennifer Z Paxton

Welcome to the museum. It’s time to get hands-on and explore the wonders of the human body.

This companion to Anatomicum is packed with puzzles, drawing challenges, tests and facts. Label different parts of the ear, spot the difference between two hands, draw a realistic heart, and complete the other half of a human skull are among the many activities and games inside the book.

This series never underestimates it young readers. Certainly, it may be a surprise on first opening a book found in the children’s section to see such realistic images of the inside of a body, but knowledge of human biology shouldn’t be limited to the children of medical professionals. Early interest in science subjects – which begins with fact-gathering – can pave the way for later exam subject choices.

The illustration style is heavily reminiscent of Victorian anatomical drawings. This adds to the feeling of studying inside a museum, and therefore to the overall sense of wonder and awe.

Activity books don’t have to be mundane. When created like this, they encompass huge amounts of learning and pique curiosity about new subjects. Beautifully made and thought out, Anatomicum Activity Book offers challenges alongside hours of learning and fun.
