A young unicorn eats a magical flower and, the next thing she knows, everything she imagines pops out of her bum. At first, she has fun being a Poopicorn, but soon things pile up around her until she things of one last thing to poo out to clear up the clutter.
Phonetically pleasing and told in rhyme, this will be a read aloud hit with the youngest of readers.
I’m not going to lie – I can imagine some parents will drop this behind the sofa every now and again. But that’s the magic! The children get to say, or hear, words that make them giggle like ‘poo’ and ‘bum’, ‘bottom’ and ‘loo’. Meanwhile, they are reading! Also, there is nothing better than pretending to be the terribly unimpressed adult whilst reading and then giving just the right smile or wink to make clear that you are in on the joke. These different reading experiences help build a lifelong love of reading.
Brightly coloured illustrations bring the story to life and they are as much a part of the humour as the text. Meanwhile, the young unicorn’s expressions are a delight … and might provoke some imitation from small children, especially where the unicorn is straining to get objects out of her – you get the gist. Cue ‘who can do the best farting noises’ moments and exceptionally giggly readers.
Humour is a vital part of a young reader’s diet and Poopicorn will have young readers in stitches.
