Evolution is a fascinating illustrated non-fiction book for KS2 that looks at evolution. What works so well about this title is that it doesn’t only focus on Darwin’s work – although that certainly isn’t downplayed. It looks at the principles studied at KS2 (eg. natural selection), how early life on earth looked and how it evolved into the life we know today, and the history of how one scientific theory and discovery lead to another until Darwin and Wallace were able to draw their conclusions at about the same time.
The book also looks at how this is relevant to humans today and how, for example, DNA makes a person who they are and likens them to their families.
Climate change is looked at both in terms of natural hot and cold spells on Earth and in terms of the man-made climate crisis. The crucial difference between them is explained, as are the conditions on the planet during different time periods.
Beautiful illustrations bring to life what these different life forms looked like and help readers to understand key scientific diagrams such as the tree of life. This is sure to be of fascination to budding scientists and would make a beautiful addition to any young reader’s bookshelf.
